Putt, putting about, 11-14-09

Saturday the 14th was a beauty of a day for flying, and having a wife that 'forces' me to keep current instead of raking leaves is a true blessing. Flew over to Circleville to visit friends for coffee and get some sugar via donuts into my system. Gotta keep our strength up. Afterwards I took a short flight to visit my friend Wes at 'Aerodrome Wes-Mar' to check up on his Sopwith Pup project. He is making good time and will make it a full time endevour to finish and fly it by spring. As the pictur… Continue

'Miss Helen'

Have heard today via a friend at Rolls-Royce that the P-51D Mustang 'Miss Helen' is now being repaired at Filton near Bristol. It will be some time before she takes to the skies again, but hearing that work is being done on her is nice to hear. Also at the Filton airfield in the same hangar is Rolls-Royce Griffin-powered Spitfire which has been re-built to fly along side their existing Spitfire. This was the one which crashed many years ago at Barton near Manchester killing the pilot. Both du

EE Lightning crash posts.

I earlier today posted on stickandrudder under the airshow 2009 forum with regard to the sad loss of English Electric Lightning T.5 in South Africa. I voiced, on here, my disgust at a person on the Flypast forum who 'posted' a shot of the accident on that forum. It seems I am not alone, and I give credit to those on that site who had the 'bottle' to say 'enough'. Maybe the 'penny' has dropped about showing crashed aircraft within miutes of a persons death or injury. I would imagine it's already… Continue

Latest ' Yap' !!

Latest 'yappings' Iv'e heard over here in the uk as of w/e 1-11-09 -

M. Hammond of Eye technical of Norfolk, are working on four 'new' Rolls-Royce merlins for a 'special' project, in the UK. 'Yap' suggests its the East Kirkby Lancaster 'Just Jane'. There were 'Yappings' that the owners were going to try and get it in the air once again in the near future, last year, but it all went very quiet. Could this be a sign of things starting to happen with grand old lady.

2010 projects.

Just to let you know, I am asking around, to see the costings for doing air-to air shots of warbirds or historic aircraft during the smaller airshows for starters, prior to any display on the day at certain events. I do not expect it to come cheap, what with operating cost and of course insurance, and I would be not surprised if the CAA have a say on it. I am simply asking questions at this stage, as to what we can do, to be John Dibbs for a 30min 'sortie' weither you have a 'cheapo' camera l

361st FG Bottisham.

Today, whilst heading North from North Weald Essex, I had an meeting with Jason Webb of the 361st fighter group org. at Bottisham village, Cambs. This meeting was called in view of the fact that the 361st FG org. are opening a museum in the village, dedicated to the 361st Fighter Group. The museum will be in the former admin area of this former 8th 'ghost station'. The owner of the buildings and land, as allowed Jason and other members of his 'outfit' to form a new museum to remember the 361s

Down south

Busy day tomorrow, on the road early to North Weald airfield to do the Hurricane meet photo-shoot which with luck, should include a Mustang (JJ) and Kennets Seafire. Weather is supposed to be 'go', so lets go for it !!

Then Calling in to 'Ghost field' Bottisham to view new museum building, which with luck, me and Kaye are going to paint very soon. Quite honoured that I get the chance to do this for the 'yellow-noses'. And the once home of the 361st and later 56th FG (temp). Will post t
