Battle of Britain 70th Aniversary airshow Duxford 4-9-2010

Attendance, so high at this show today, that at 13.40pm they closed the gates, due to safety grounds and they were full. Did not take much video, due to no platform with me, which would have helped, as there were just too many 'heads' in the way. PlanesTV were there, so the video produced by them should be wonderful.

There were many great performances, but the 'biggy' was the 16 Spitfires in formation. Here are some of the images taken today.

Hard to believe they had to fend off the hordes like that, but good for the museums balance sheet I expect and hopefully a good sign that this anniversary will continue to be observed. Last time this happened was when Fairford(?) got washed out and everyone headed to Duxford forcing the drawbridges to be raised.
Hope that we have our arrival timed right - already had one show where we gave up and turned home!

Bob, I got to Junction 10 at 09.10ish and they were 'Jamming' then !! When I left early, people had parked on the grass verges next to the airfield hedges on both-sides. Peter and his good Lady were late, and only just made it, by parking on an industrial estate, and walking. Over the P/A system, they said anyone with tickets, will get a 'refund', they have to phone the ticket office first thing monday morning. Get there early mate, Oh and I think your mate 'Bernard' is there, although he was 'limp' for a change if it was him !!

Oh bugger - aiming to get there for 9.30 - have to drop the dog off at friends at 9am - reading the thread over on Flypaper it looks like traffic was a problem from doors open!

I had never seen cars dumped on both sides of the A505 before. I made the big mistake of going to the dump at Thriplow in the morning, and it took me 1 1/2 hours to get home!!

I thought it was one of the best 'non-legends' shows that I have ever been too in a long time. I thought it was well attended by visiting aircraft, and the display's were wonderful. Made Flying Legends look a bit 'limp-biscuit', Well impressed with the show, and well done to everyone who took part. Hated the 'wind-breaker' crews taking 4 standing spaces up, but this folk for you.

Was 'emotional' indeed, reminding us all that people died and others stood their ground, fighting for your freedom 70 years ago. To which we owe it to them to behave ourselfs. You were not alone Bob, alot of others thought of those times, with emotion, when some serious stuff was going down. We thank them all.

Well my traffic concerns came to nought - sailed in pretty much fuss free although there was a queue from the main entrance and round the M11 interchange but it was flowing.
The Sally B enclosure was well attended with some 'stragglers' from yesterdays debacle, which Elly Sallingboe was apologising for - not really her fault...
The show was a good mix but the sight of four Hurricanes flying formation was certainly good. I remember when four Spitfires in the air together was considered 'awesome'. So sixteen Spits was spitacular!!!
Shivers down the spine, lump in the throat (no airshow food this time) and that tear in the eye wasn't from the breeze!!!

Who's the old geezer with the gold watch then!
Our gate tickets timed at 13.44! Cut it pretty close but no clamps on the car when we got back but queueing for more than 2 hours wasn't much fun especially as we didn't even get in a proper car park. Mind you, there was no delay getting out! Fabulous show though even if we only saw the Reds from the M11. I think I've got a few Spit pics I'll put some up in a bit.

Dunno, think he's a 'scout' for Kermit Weeks or the like, sure I saw him, at North Weald and DX earlier in the year !! Looks a real airshow 'fan' who will travel miles to get some warbird time in, just like me.
